Real-Time Range Ring Visualizer

The real-time Range Ring visualizer is a lightweight, browser-based map tool that displays real-time aircraft position and projected range based on fuel on board, burn rate, true airspeed, and wind influence. It runs on any mobile device or tablet and provides an immediate visual indication of how far the aircraft can travel under current conditions.

Core Functionality

The system uses live GPS data to calculate groundspeed, magnetic track, endurance, and estimated range. A continuously updated range ring is drawn on the moving map, showing the approximate maximum distance reachable at that moment. Pilots can add simple waypoints or activate a direct-to leg, and the tool will display distance and estimated time en route as the aircraft progresses.

Real-Time Map Display

The moving map automatically renders the aircraft position, the full route if created, and the active navigation leg. The range ring adjusts dynamically as groundspeed and fuel change, giving a fast, visual reference without additional workload. Interaction is kept minimal and responsive on all modern mobile browsers.

How It Works

Before starting, the pilot enters true airspeed, magnetic heading, variation, fuel on board, and fuel burn while in flight and at the early stage of cruise. Accurate values are essential for correct calculations. Once the session begins, GPS tracking activates automatically. Waypoints or airports can be added directly from the map, and the system moves to the next waypoint when the aircraft reaches a defined proximity threshold. The direct-to line and basic data fields update continuously as GPS information changes.

Intended Use

The Range Ring Visualizer is not certified for operational navigation and must not be used for flight planning or decision-making. It does not contain terrain, obstacle, or weather information. All displayed values depend on correct inputs, stable GPS reception, and valid aircraft performance parameters. It is intended only as a supplemental range display while flying.
