W/V Calculator – Wind and Ground Speed Calculator for Pilots
The W/V Calculator is a web-based tool that lets pilots quickly measure ground speed, track, drift angle, and wind vector (direction/speed) using GPS data. Enter heading (HDG), true airspeed (TAS), magnetic variation (VAR), and measurement duration, then press Start Measurement.
How It Works
The app records GPS positions over the selected time, showing a countdown timer and progress bar. Once complete, it calculates:
Ground speed in knots
Magnetic track
Drift angle
Wind direction and speed (W/V)
A Stop Measurement button allows flexibility for repeated readings.
Accuracy
- 30 seconds measurement: Marginal accuracy, quick result
- 60 seconds measurement: Better accuracy (recommended minimum)
- 90 seconds measurement: Good accuracy
